Cleaning House
This powerful exploration of John chapter 2 challenges us to examine what truly occupies the sacred spaces of our hearts. When Jesus entered the temple and overturned the tables of the money changers, He wasn't simply having an emotional outburst - He was demonstrating righteous anger at anything that hinders authentic worship. The Court of the Gentiles, meant to be a place where seekers could encounter God, had become a marketplace where convenience replaced contemplation and transaction replaced transformation. We're invited to ask ourselves: what tables need overturning in our own lives? What have we allowed to set up shop in the outer courts of our hearts that makes worship more convenient but less meaningful? The sermon draws a profound connection between Jesus cleansing the temple and His promise of resurrection, reminding us that He has the authority to rearrange our lives because He conquered death itself. When we remember the resurrection, we find the courage to trust that Jesus has all authority, is always in control, and therefore deserves our complete trust - even when life shakes us to our core.
