Beyond Physical Bread: Finding True Life in Jesus

This powerful message confronts us with a challenging question: Are we following Jesus for who He truly is, or for what we hope He'll do for us? Drawing from John 6, we're invited to examine the misconceptions we carry about our Savior—particularly the tendency to reduce Him to a provider of physical blessings rather than recognizing Him as the source of eternal life itself. The crowd following Jesus had witnessed the miraculous feeding of thousands, yet they missed the deeper significance of the sign. They wanted more bread, more provision, more comfort—but Jesus offered them something far greater: Himself. The imagery is striking and even offensive to our sensibilities: eating His flesh and drinking His blood. But this scandalous language points to a profound truth about authentic faith. We're called not just to believe once and move on, but to continually 'feed' on Christ—to abide in Him, to let His presence sustain us daily, to find in Him what we desperately seek everywhere else. This isn't about religious performance or working our way to God; it's about recognizing that the God-shaped vacuum in our souls can only be filled by God Himself. When circumstances don't align with our expectations, when prayers seem unanswered, when life feels harder than we think it should—these are the moments we discover whether we're truly feeding on Christ or just consuming His blessings. The invitation stands: Will we, like many in the crowd, turn away when the teaching gets hard? Or will we echo Peter's response: 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.'
