Ecclesiastes- Rejoicing and Remembering: Living Meaningfully in a Meaningless World

Nov 16, 2025    Pastor Andrew Browder

As we close the book of Ecclesiastes, we're confronted with a profound truth: everything under the sun is fleeting, yet life itself remains a precious gift. This passage challenges us to consider the path we're on—not tomorrow, not next year, but right now in this very moment. We're given five bold commands to rejoice, walk wisely, and know that God will bring everything into judgment. The wisdom here isn't about earning God's love through perfect behavior, but about making a daily decision to remember our Creator before the dark days come, before our bodies fail us, before death claims what it will. The imagery of aging—the dimming eyes, the trembling hands, the broken pitcher at the well—reminds us that our time is limited and our capacity diminishes. Yet there's hope beyond the vanity: Jesus offers living water that never runs dry. When we transfer our faith from the wells of this world to the fountain of Christ, we discover that death has already been defeated. The call is urgent and clear: weave patterns of rejoicing and remembering into the fabric of our daily lives, because the secret to a meaningful existence in a meaningless world is found in loving God above all else and keeping His commandments—not out of obligation, but out of love.
